This article continues my previous piece, on AI and the Changing World of Work, Part 1. Several autonomous coding AI agents are currently in development, and over the next decade, AI is positioned to take over a significant share of coding tasks. Part 1 indicated that coding was safe from AI, but AI and the Changing World of Work, Part 2, paints a different picture. A few of the autonomous coding agents under development include:
2. Hive by OpenAI
3.Zapier AI by Make.com
4.Cursor by KiloCode.com
5.copilot by Microsoft github.com
6. Crew AI
6. Relevance AI
7. Zencoder AI.
These platforms function as autonomous coding agents that require minimal human involvement. In addition to these agents, several APIs allow developers to integrate AI‑driven coding capabilities directly into their workflows. Examples include:
- Google Gemini API
- Microsoft Copilot‑related APIs
- Microsoft Azure Foundry API
These tools collectively signal a major shift in how software development will operate in the years ahead. if AI successfully replaces software engineers and code itself from scratch, then we are past the event horizon and nearing a fast takeoff.
